The name of this organization shall be: Home, Sweet, Home Homeless Ministry LLC
The mission of Home, Sweet, Home Homeless Ministry LLC is to provide short-term shelter for the homeless with the goal of assisting our guests obtain long-term housing, establish mentoring relationships, and secure stable employment.
The goal of the Home, Sweet, Home Homeless Ministry LLC (also referred to as HSH) will be to provide individuals with the necessary resources and support they need to gain self–sufficient living in an atmosphere of dignity, integrity and respect. The Ministry will serve adult men, 18 years old and older.
Believing most adults have the ability to achieve independent living, we will call our guests into high accountability for their actions or their failure to act. Adults benefit from this philosophy, as does the entire community.
With the increased awareness of the value that community plays in helping to reshape the lives of those in need, we will be working to form partnerships and strong relational ties with individuals and community organizations throughout Independence and the surrounding community. We realize that those who need us most belong to the community, and as such, it is the community joining together that is best able to meet their needs. Our goal is that through the ongoing involvement and support of others, our guests will continue to receive the care and services they need to enable them to fully participate in the community of which they are a part.
We believe that the community will embrace the services of Home Sweet Home Homeless Ministry LLC. The ongoing support of community organizations, associations and individuals will be the community’s contribution to the joint effort required to serve the needs of the homeless individuals in the community.
The Ministry will include three areas: housing, mentoring and employment.
Home, Sweet, Home Homeless Ministry LLC has a short–term transitional housing located at 212 1/2 West Laurel Street in Independence, Kansas. The house will shelter up to eight adult men. The standard length of stay may range from one night to ninety days depending on the commitment level of the guest. Basic living necessities will be provided for guests and will include three meals a day, toiletries, clothing, and laundry facilities. Residents will participate in cooking, cleaning, lawn care, house maintenance, laundry and self-care. Long-term housing needs for guests will be addressed with staff, volunteer workers, social workers, and community organizations to identify available options for either private living or publicly supported housing programs.
Volunteer mentors will be utilized to promote a person’s physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. The basic goal is to help a person readjust and become established within their community. This mentoring relationship will ordinarily extend beyond the time a guest lives at HSH. Home, Sweet, Home Homeless Ministry LLC will provide community entry points for former guests and be a resource as each person reconstructs a social network and builds core support relationships.
Employment is the establishment of any sustainable income allowing a person to live independently. For some this may be working a job. For others it may include receiving a disability check.
Home, Sweet, Home Homeless Ministry LLC will work with the State Employment Office, local business’, industries and educational institutions to prepare the guest to seek employment and cultivate employable skills.
Home, Sweet, Home Homeless Ministry LLC will assist disabled guests with the process of applying for disability assistance.
Home, Sweet, Home Homeless Ministry LLC will work with people of all abilities and disabilities to identify a means by which to survive.
